Habitat (2017, work in progress)

We visit zoos to observe nature because we often do not have other ways to do that. But zoos being an idea of nature have in fact little in common with it. Isolating nature for the convenience of its exhibiting inevitably transforms it and this transformation is randomised by many external factors (i.e., available space, budget, architects’ creativity, etc.). So maybe what we are actually able to observe is not nature itself but an artificial construct made of random nature’s fragments and bits and pieces of our culture and, therefore, of us as observers?
